although i'm sure this book is accurate and these things have happened within the governing body, it did happen a long time ago and even the "annoited" are imperfect men.. after alot of thought and prayer i chose to stay a witness- an active witness to my ability which is now limited.
But, then again, I just finished pointing out in another thread that I am getting pretty resigned to the likelihood that what you said, OUTLAW, is very applicable to my immediate family, and that they'll never get out of their Watchtower-guarded prison.
It is both angering and saddening, but I have some other things to do and see . . . maybe I'll go to RiverFest tomorrow and help my landlady with some of her mess. I've been putting it off all day, anyway.

I don't think it's ever too late for people to change.
I don't like to hear about people being too old for making friends and such.
I have problems with that attitude because it seems very discriminatory and seems to reinforce the WT Society's aims: give up on "the world" and on "worldly" people; there's nothing out there for you (except to convert others), etc.
I'm not saying one needs to harass everyone about it, but I don't think we have to assume that every older person is completely helpless or hopeless. The Society really likes to infantalize us all in various ways. I'd like to try not to do it to others.
My living grandma is very old, and is losing her mind in some ways, but she is still cognizant and able to process some information. If she got around to being able to see and read again, they might have a hassle with her questioning things, as she did a bit of rebelling a few years back, regarding me, and it caused quite a flap.
My deceased grandmother and a jw aunt and uncle also not-so-secretly disagreed with my d'f'ing, although their attitudes and behavior were eventually "adjusted" by the elders (and by my refusal to "repent"). But anyway, I once again digress.
There have been posts at this forum by a number of people who left the truth at an age one might not have thought possible, right?
i am new here and i joined honestly to collect information to understand something a little better.
my boyfriend, well-now kinda boyfriend (were at a weird place) is a jehovah's witness and i am not.
he waited a little "far" into our relationship to tell me he was, which created a mess, honestly an emotional dyfunctional mess.

Maybe you could show him this site and tell him to do some research about the CULT he is in . or maybe he should look up the definition of the word CULT so he can see that he is indeed in a cult . It would not have mattered if you were "nicer," I'm afraid, simply because of the nature of brainwashing, but then again, there is the saying about attracting bees with honey.
You said and did nothing to deserve being shunned. You simply disagreed with her POV and shared some facts and anecdotes that put the Society in a non-preferential light.
Your mom clearly is too brainwashed to process COC; perhaps she'll "get it" later on. I agree that you have no aplogies to make, and did not intend to suggest that by my interpretation of the article she sent.
My interpretation of the article she enclosed is completely different from changeling's. Maybe what changeling suggests is the case; however, my experience with that kind of thing - my mother is also a highlighter - is pretty much what I said. Most of the JWs I have known are just as quick to apply the "admonition" to others as to themselves.
Anyway, I hope your mom softens up a bit, for your sake and for her own sake. It is sad that she is alienated from her kids.

I was a lonely, naive, people-pleasing, brainwashed misfit of a 13-year-old.
I was soon a slightly less lonely 15-year-old misfit with an enormous rebellious streak when I was d'f'ed for my unrepentance over "not wanting to be a JW" anymore after I had pretended to repent of smoking and back-slid into it again and again.
It took me a long time to stop acting out like a 15-year-old. Thank goodness for therapy!
Edited to add: jehovah's witnesses' black and white world can keep us locked into black and white patterns long, long after we leave da troof behind.
stealing is a very serious accusation (if you don't believe us ask judas), but it looks like is not that uncommon between jws.
we have been in different congregations were money has been 'subtracted' from the contributions for personal purposes.
an elder used some to buy stuff, although he returned the money later, but... in this other congregation the accounting servant (is that the correct term in english?
Did you have a Judas in your congregation?
Hopefully, they all do, and the Judases make them all bankrupt!

It sounds like she's heading down the shunning road, though, if she doesn't receive the expected apology from you. I'm sorry to hear this sad news, although in light of what we all know and have experienced of brainwashing and control-freakiness, it's not too surprising. Still, it is a disappointment for you and for all of us to read that. At least the seeds are planted . . . perhaps a few more nudges, and she will nod awake. Hugs, purplesofa!

My 2 favorite ways to eat a hot dog demonstrate my Yankee-Southern hybridization and the fact that I sometimes order only vegetarian hotdogs, shows that I have a deep rift within my soul:
Chili and coleslaw OR mustard and sauerkraut. Yankees often recognize the Yankee in me when I order hot dogs or polish sausage with sauerkraut.
